The Soul Rebels
The Soul Rebels
THE SOUL REBELS are riding high into 2016 after recently touring four continents including Europe, Australia, debuting in China and Japan, selling out shows, collaborating live with artists spanning from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Marilyn Manson, Joey Bada$$, Big Freedia, Lettuce, Umphrey’s McGee, Robert Glasper, Kool & The Gang, Rakim, Slick Rick, The String Cheese Incident, Black Thought of The Roots, Pharoahe Monch and opening for Bruno Mars.

The Soul Rebels start off the year strong with a tour featuring special guest Talib Kweli, complimented by a three night residency at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl featuring special guests Big Freedia, Talib Kweli and other iconic artists.

The Soul Rebels started with an idea – to expand upon the pop music they loved on the radio and the New Orleans brass tradition they grew up on. They took that tradition and blended funk and soul with elements of hip hop, jazz and rock. The band has settled on an eight-piece lineup and have built a career around an eclectic live show that harnesses the power of horns and drums in the party like atmosphere of a dance club. When not touring, The Soul Rebels’ weekly show at New Orleans’ Le Bon Temps Roulé is known to erupt with the kind of contagious, shout-along musical mayhem that The Rebels bring with them wherever they perform.

The Soul Rebels continue to chart new territory as they combine topnotch musicianship and songs with grooves that celebrate dancing, life, funk and soul.

“Brace yourselves folks, these men are quickly solidifying themselves amongst NOLA’s proud big brass elite… and seem intent to sublimate the homogenoustones of the contemporary urban music landscape with the lush instrumentation of our culture’s root.” - OKAYPLAYER

“The Soul Rebels are rebelling against one, albeit detestable thing: starchy paint-bynumbers music.” - VIBE
Big Freedia
Big Freedia
Big Freedia, known as the Queen of Bounce, is a New Orleans-based rapper and ambassador of Bounce music. A vibrant twist on hip-hop, Bounce music is characterized by call-and-response lyrics over rapid-fire beats and booty-shaking.

After running the New Orleans club scene for over two decades, Big Freedia is now bringing the Bounce movement to a world-wide stage with her hit reality show, "Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce" on Fuse TV. The weekly docu-series follows the life of a gay choirboy turned Bounce rapper and, after 3 seasons, remains the highest rated original series for the network, and after receiving the GLAAD Media Award in 2013, the show was nominated for the award again in 2014. Season 4 will debut on September 30, 2015.

Last year, Big Freedia released his much-anticipated debut LP, Just Be Free. Named one of the 'best electronic releases of 2014' by Rolling Stone, the album was critically acclaimed in outlets such as Pitchfork, SPIN, USA Today, and Consequence of Sound.

Big Freedia maintains a rigorous tour schedule which features his legendary shake team and Bounce dance moves like "the twerk" (popularized by Miley Cyrus in 2013), "the shake" "the wiggle," "the bend ova," the "hands on the ground," to name just a few. He and his shake team are a festival favorite, often known to steal the show at Outside Lands, Fun Fun Fun Fest, and Bumbershoot.

In 2012, Big Freedia made his television network debut on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" He has also appeared on "Last Call with Carson Daly," "Watch What Happens Live," NPR's 'All Things Considered,' NPR's 'Marketplace,' and "Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell."

In 2015, Big Freedia penned his first memoir, Big Freedia: God Save the Queen Diva! on Gallery Books/Simon & Schuster. The book was hailed in the press by outlets from Rolling Stone and Pitchfork to OUT and BUST. A collaboration with pop-vocalist Sia for "Eye of the Needle" was released summer as part of the Adult Swim Series. His second EP, entitled Good Times, will be released the Fall.
